Incoming Freshman Chemistry Major Advising
Note: Most of this webpage applies only to freshman Chemistry majors. Other incoming freshmen should visit the Chemistry Course Advising webpage for course and placement information.
All incoming freshman students must receive academic advising before they will be allowed to register for classes. After an advisor has approved your first semester class schedule you will be authorized for course registration.
You have two options for completing mandatory advising:
- Participate in a Wolf Pack Advising and Registration event (RSVP required).
- If you are unable to attend Wolf Pack Advising and Registration, you must contact a chemisry advisor to schedule an advising appointment, as described below.
What to do prior to contacting a chemistry advisor
If you are unable to attend Wolf Pack Advising and Registration:

This pdf document contains information about recommended chemistry courses, math prerequisites, and gives suggested curriculum plans for completing your degree in four years.

- Once you have selected the courses you need, prepare a proposed class schedule for your first semester at UNR.

How to arrange an academic advising appointment
You have two options:
- Meet individually with a chemistry advisor at UNR
Schedule an appointment by contacting the Chemistry Department:
- Phone 775-784-6041
- Email a chemistry advisor at advising@chem.unr.edu
- Obtain freshman advising by email/phone
After you have prepared a proposed class schedule:
- Email your proposed schedule to a chemistry advisor at advising@chem.unr.edu
Include in your email message your name, student ID “R-number”, and your ACT or SAT math scores. You should organize your proposed schedule using a format similar to that in the College of Science advising form:
- College of Science advising form (pdf file)
- College of Science advising form (MS-Word file)
- A chemistry advisor will review your proposed schedule and contact you with approval or with suggested changes.
- After you and your advisor agree on a first semester class schedule, your advisor will authorize you for class registration.
- Email your proposed schedule to a chemistry advisor at advising@chem.unr.edu
How to register for classes
After you have received advising and registration authorization, register for your classes using ePAWS.
