Physical Chemistry
A Postdoctoral Research Association position in experimental
physical chemistry/chemical physics is available in the
research group of Professor Kent M. Ervin in the Department
of Chemistry and Chemical Physics Program at the University
of Nevada, Reno. The available projects include
investigations of the dynamics and energetics of ion-molecule
reactions of hydrocarbons of interest in combustion,
including biofuels and oxygenated fuels, and photophysical
studies of trapped ions. The Ervin group has at its disposal
a Guided Ion Beam Tandem Mass Spectrometer apparatus and also
a Quadrupole Ion Trap/Time-of-Flight Tandem Mass
Spectrometer, which is undergoing further development for
crossed ion/molecular beam reaction studies. The postdoctoral
position is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of
Energy and will be for one-year, extendable by mutual
agreement. Candidates should have experience in one or more
of the following areas: mass spectrometry, laser
spectroscopy, surface science techniques, molecular beams,
ion beams and ion optics, high vacuum techniques, or
instrumental design, construction, and data acquisition.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate
are essential.
For further information including the full position
announcement and instructions on submitting the required online
application, please refer the links above. Candidates are also asked to e-mail a letter of interest
