David Leitner Named A Fellow of the American Physical Society
Professor David Leitner has been named a fellow of the American Physical Society. This is a great honor as the criterion for election is based on the fellow's exceptional contributions to the physics enterprise; e.g., outstanding physics research, important applications of physics, leadership in or service to physics, or significant contributions to physics education.
Chemistry faculty win teaching awards
Professor Robert Sheridan has been awarded the 2012 LeMay Award for Excellence in Teaching by the College of Science, in recognition of his outstanding teaching in Organic Chemistry.
The Alan Bible Teaching Excellence Award for 2012 was given to Professor Sarah Cummings for her excellent teaching in organic chemistry and her work as coordinator of the organic chemistry laboratory program.
Chemistry graduate assistant awards
The winners of the 2012 chemistry department graduate student awards are Lyndsay Munro as Outstanding Teaching Assistant and Rahda Bhola as Outstanding Research Assistant.
Undergraduate chemistry student awards
Senior chemistry major Anna Koster has been recognized with major awards for excellence in academics and research. She was awarded the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and an ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (sponsored by Pfizer) for her research in organic chemical reactions with Professor Christopher Jeffrey.
Graduating senior Kevin Marshall was awarded a National Science Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship. Kevin is a dual major in chemistry and chemical engineering who has done undergraduate research with Professor Joseph Cline. He will be joining the Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program at Caltech.
